MagnaFlow as well as some others make a muffler that has the crossflow built into it eliminating the x pipe.

I used a magnaflow X pipe, not the muffler one just a plain old 2.5" universal X pipe on my 5.9. Can`t speak to any sound difference cause I did my whole exhaust at once.... but I can say you should stay away from magnaflow cats if you have to pass emissions sniff tests where you are

That`s the same X pipe I used
I can`t recommend any aftermarket cats... my only experience is with magnaflow. I bought a pair of 94006`s 2 years ago and I just failed my emissions test twice
I think I might go with walker to replace them

When Ihad my mustang i too wandered if it was worht the switch, but when i swapped from an h pipe to an x pipe, it sounded a lot better, raspy but in a good way. Are you going to be running cats? If not you`ll notice a bigger difference in sound.

It wont sound bad with cats, you just notice the difference more without them, its mostly person preference.
